Mashnee ISLAND

Welcome to Mashnee!

Mashnee Island ("Mashnee Village") is a place rich with history and charm. It's a real place, with real people and real stories to tell. If you've been there, you know the magic it holds. Today, the island is an exclusive community with modern homes, but it still retains its authentic character and breathtaking beauty. And have I mentioned, it belonged to us kids!

Originally a true island, Mashnee became part of an 'isthmus' in 1939 when the Coast Guard built a causeway connecting it to the mainland. This secluded 50-acre paradise is located just a short, winding drive from the Bourne Bridge, offering stunning views of the Cape Cod Canal and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

A storied past...

Mashnee Island has a fascinating history. It was home to the Wampanoag Indian tribe, who traded with the early Pilgrims. The island saw various ventures, including sheep grazing, salt harvesting, wolf pastures, and even a boys' sailing camp. During WWII, it served as a strategic lookout point for the Coast Guard.

History
and heart

In the mid-20th century, Mashnee Village was born, transforming the island into a family-friendly retreat. Quaint cottages dotted the landscape, and the community thrived with activities like movie nights, bingo, and weenie roasts. The island’s charm lay in its tight-knit community and the joyful spirit that enveloped everyone who visited.

Growing up on Mashnee Island in the sixties and seventies meant endless summer days filled with adventure. Children explored the beaches, played in the sand, and enjoyed the simple pleasures of island life. The island was a safe haven, where friendships flourished, and every day was a new adventure!  Simply put,
Mashnee Island was the Greatest Place Ever!

From then until now...

Today, Mashnee Island remains a beloved spot, where the past meets the present, and the island's spirit continues to enchant all who live there and visit.
